Author’s Summary: After the war ended, Harry wanted nothing more than to settle down and start living his life with the woman he loved. The only trouble was finding that woman. Now, Harry has found himself at his best friend, Luna Lovegood’s, door after another in a long line of failed relationships. And with her help, he’s determined to find the woman who will fit his list, ‘The One’.

My Thoughts:
Characterization: Those of you who know me on Discord are probably aware that a well-written Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite things that can possibly be in a fanfic, and here’s another great example of that! SalTal do an absolutely fantastic job capturing everything I like about her character in this oneshot. She’s unfailingly kind, quirky but not insanely so, unpredictable, and loves animals. Watching her relationship with Harry develop is really sweet, and a bit sad as well, of the nature of this story’s plot. Speaking of sad, Harry’s a fucking dick in this fic! However, he’s a. dick unintentionally because he’s a confused war survivor trying to figure out what love is. It’s kinda endearing. I’m a big fan of how awkward he is in this fic, even as an adult, because I often find that authors make him far too smooth when they try and write post-Hogwarts romances. Overall, the characterization is great! Very good stuff indeed.

Humour and Romance: So this one’s a bit tough. The Harry/Luna romance is great. They have an absolutely adorable dynamic, and all of their conversations are absolutely fucking fantastic. I also like their banter. The banter was the best part of Edelweiss, and I think it’s equally great here. However, only about half of the jokes made during the flashbacks with Harry’s previous partners landed for me. I thought the ears thing was quite funny, but I wasn’t a fan of the identical twin jokes, and I thought the Gabbi stuff really didn’t need to be there and only existed to make the fic longer. The jokes weren’t funny, and we didn’t even get any character development out of it, cause we never see any flashbacks set during their relationship. I truly wish I didn’t have to do this, but because of the unfunny jokes, I simply cannot justify giving this a score above

Plot: The plot is very simple, but I think it gets the job done. It’s a little story about Harry figuring out what love is, and deciding to start a relationship with Luna. We get some flashbacks to other failed relationships, which typically help his character progress in some way, he and Luna get together, the end. It’s cute, and it works for the most part. It’s not the plot’s fault that the jokes sometimes aren’t funny.

Dialogue: This is a SalTal fic, so of course the dialogue’s great. Saliient91 and Taliesin19 are both fantastic at dialogue, and this fic is no exception. There are a bunch of fantastic quips, as well as several very dramatic moments absolutely carried by their dialogue. Luna’s dialogue does wonders for her characterization, and Harry’s is very nice as well.

Writing Mechanics: There’s really nothing to criticize here. The prose is great, the grammar is sound, the spelling is all accurate. This is very unsurprising, it’s a SalTal fic.

Overall: I think that, overall, this is a really great fic. However, I feel that it’s bogged down a bit by jokes that don’t really land for me. It has some really cute character interactions, and it’s for a pairing that I really like, but I feel like some of the romance flashbacks are a bit clunky. However, I feel like the positives firmly outweigh the negatives, and it manages to scrape a spot in the top tier.

Final Thoughts: If you like Harry/Luna, this fic is for you. If you like competently written romance, this fic is for you. However, if you’re turned off by not very funny jokes, then maybe you should skip this one. Nevertheless, this fic definitely does more right then it does wrong, so I’m very happy to say that it is decidedly great.

Tier: Great Tier
