Author’s Summary: AU. Time Travel. Snape goes back in time, holding the knowledge of what is to come if he fails. No longer holding a grudge, he seeks to shape Harry into the greatest wizard of all time, starting on the day Hagrid took Harry to Diagon Alley. No Horcruxes.

My Thoughts: To Shape and Change is the actual dictionary definition of squandered potential. Not only is the writing really great, but the concept is pretty cool as well. This is easily one of the best Snape-centric fics I’ve ever read, and I really appreciate that. His character is still reminiscent of how he was in canon, but it’s clear he’s also gone through substantial character development since we last saw him in canon. I also think the time travel is pretty interesting, and Harry’s mentor/apprentice dynamic with Snape is rather fun to read. Unfortunately, this fic is a bit too long, and a bit too slow moving. I’m also not a huge fan of where the plot goes in the later chapters. This is my definitive good!mentor!Snape story, and it’s easily the one I’ve gotten the most enjoyment out of, but it has its flaws that might make it rather hard to read. I’d give it a go if you’re looking to see mentor Snape done right, but also temper your expectations.
